NATURE AND BIRD PARADISE

NATURE

Our paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers! Miklósi is located in the middle of NATURPARK KOPPÁNYVÖLGY where you can walk, cycle, fish and horseback ride endlessly and enjoy lots of natural beauty and animals that you don't easily encounter on a walk in the Netherlands.

BIRDS

In Miklósi you can find holes of the Bee-eater. You can hear these colourful birds here: a soft rolling pruut with a singing tone. Orioles can also be seen and heard a lot here, as well as the Skylark, Goldfinch, the Spotted and Green Woodpecker, Cuckoo, Redstart, Swallow and a number of tit species. An old letterbox hangs in our forest as a nesting box for the Tits. They already 'cracked' the letterbox when we still had it hanging for the post... so a second life as a nesting box was a logical next step. In the old toilet at the Pipacs winery, a pair of Redstarts had made a nest in an organiser. The Spotted Flycatchers really went wild: above the washing-up area on the campsite on a beam they made their nest, so all the guests quietly did the washing-up for a while and watched with fascination how the parents were hunting for their young and saw them successfully fly out! The Nightingale (Night Warbler) is active from May. An unsightly little bird that sings at night like a canary on the warpath. He would easily win any singing contest when he sings his love songs to his rival at the end of our forest to win over his girl. (He does sing in the tree opposite my bedroom, but who doesn't like to be serenaded?)

BUTTERFLIES AND CO

Many butterflies visit us because of the shallow water areas that we maintain especially for them and of course we have many flowers that butterflies like to visit! The most beautiful species, which we often no longer encounter in the Netherlands, are still abundant here: King's and Queen's Page, Large Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Orange Lucerne Butterfly, Comma, Blue, Large and Red Copper, various types of Blues and certainly the Checkerboard. And there are also many types of moths and also certain moth species are worth seeing. The Hummingbird Moth is a very special one! And what do you think of the Fireflies that can be seen at the end of May/June. They give a fairytale atmosphere to every beautiful summer evening, whether or not, by a campfire...

WILD

At the campsite, fallow deer and roe deer come to drink at our pond. Even when the campsite is full, guests sometimes encounter a deer early in the morning when they go to the toilet, for example. Hares, rabbits, hedgehogs, foxes and badgers can also be found everywhere. Of course, encounters with wildlife are easiest at our vineyard cottages: we are in the middle of nature and in their habitat. It is wonderful to hear the deer calling each other from the different sides of the valley. We have a bird guide that you can take with you on your trips and if you are a member of Natuurmonumenten you can order a nice track book there that is very useful with us!
